Froth Flotation Process Of Copper Ore

Copper came from most of the continents in the world. As in all mining operations, the ore must usually be beneficiated (concentrated). To get the copper content of the ore, then need a copper extraction process which consists of a series of chemical processes, physical, and a process by means of electrochemical. The extraction process can be done by froth flotation process of copper ore, because it is considered a very practical way in the copper mining industry

Froth flotation process is considered the most widely used method for ore beneficiation. In copper ore flotation is a precious mineral separation process from of ingredients worthless or other valuable minerals by a induce process the mineral ore, so that ore minerals can accumulate and be on the surface of the foam.

Video of the copper flotation process in this below is a separation process   the copper minerals at the mill using froth flotation.

The early stages of the flotation process is a crushing and grinding the mineral ore to the small size. The copper ore from in the mining is crushed into a size of about 250mm pieces, and then the grinding process is mixed with of lime (simply water and ground-up limestone) to form a slurry and give a basic pH.  Raising the pH causes the polar end to ionize more and to preferentially stick to chalcopyrite mineral (CuFeS2) and leave pyrit mineral (FeS2) only. The response of many minerals to the flotation process is often affected of pH., and  process from the flotation circuit often operated at a pH range of 7.5 to 11.5.

The xanthates added to the slurry in a relatively small amount. Xanthate is a long hydrocarbon  chain molecule. One of the ionic dithiocarbamate or molecular chain ends are a polar while one of the other molecule end is nonpolar, The hydrophobic is chain containing elements a hydrocarbon, and this molecules particles hate to be in the water and is attracted to the nonpolar hydrocarbon pine oil molecules.

Air is blown into the tanks and agitated like a giant blender, producing a foamy froth. Frothers are added to the system cell flotation to change the bubble characteristics and stability of the froth.  The ability of copper ore minerals to be able to float depending on the nature of the surface. modification of the chemical properties of allows particles minerals to be lifted by the air bubbles in the process of flotation cell. Commonly used frother are pine oil, MIBC, polyglycols , certain alcohols etc.

Adding depressant to inhibit or slow down  the flotation of a desired type of particle. It either inhibits the collector molecule from adsorbing onto the copper ore mineral particles surface or to mask the adsorbed collector species from the bulk solution so that the particles do not display hydrophobic properties. Some examples chemicals that inhibit the flotation of minerals. are starch, tannin, silicates, Al salts and dextrin.

Bubble stream then slowly headed to the edge of the flotation tank Solid material settles in the bottom of the ramps and pushed into the middle of the fork system that slowly rotates around the tank. At that time the process of the bubble will rupture or damaged and then the slurry toward the center of the tank bottom

Then The thickened slurry is pumped back into the mill for further processing. The cleansed water and then flows under the small dam,  that you can see just inside the perimeter of this tank flotation, flowing toward the side, and then is pumped back to the mill for to be used in the flotation process back
